The questions people usually ask before they book. If yours is not here, send an email and ask.
Do I need a referral to see you?
No. You can book directly. Most people find Lorraine through this website or through Psychology Today.
What happens in the free 15-minute consultation?
It is a short call by video or phone. You say a little about what is going on, Lorraine answers any questions, and the two of you work out whether it makes sense to go further. There is no cost and no obligation.
What happens in a first session?
A first session is mostly about understanding the shape of the problem and what you want to be different. Lorraine will ask about what brought you here, what you have already tried, and what matters to you. You set the pace. You do not have to tell your whole story on day one.
How long is a session?
Sixty minutes.
What does it cost?
An individual session is $150 and a couple session is $170. A sliding scale is available for those who may be eligible, so if cost is the thing standing in your way, say so during the free consultation. Payment is by cash or e-transfer.
Is it covered by insurance?
Many extended health plans in British Columbia cover sessions with a Registered Social Worker. Check your own plan for coverage of an RSW, and ask Lorraine for a receipt you can submit.
Can we meet by video or phone?
Yes. Sessions are available in person, by video, or by phone, anywhere in British Columbia. Many people mix the two, in person when they can and by video when they cannot.
Where are you located?
White Rock and Surrey, British Columbia.
What days are you available?
Monday and Wednesday. Evening hours and Sundays are available by request, so if neither of those days works, send an email and ask.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes. Clinical records are kept confidential in line with the standards of the British Columbia College of Social Workers. There are limits set by law, including risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else, suspected abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult, and a court order. These limits are explained to you at the start of counselling so there are no surprises.
Do you work with older adults?
Yes. Lorraine works with adults 19 and over and with older adults, and she has spent decades in mental health settings where that work was the core of the job.
What if I need to cancel?
If you need to change or cancel an appointment, please let Lorraine know as early as you can so the time can be offered to someone else. She will go over her cancellation policy with you when you book.
Still not sure?
That is what the free call is for. Fifteen minutes, no cost, no obligation.
